PUNK PRESCRIPTION PLAYLIST 6-24-09
Continuing the non-punk trajectory of the Punk Prescription shows for June, today’s show is not just non-punk but thoroughly ANTI-PUNK. I’ve culled some of the songs and the artists from the early to mid-‘70s who made a rebellion against their music not only possible but downright necessary. Bloated, boring, self-indulgent, pretentious – these are just a few of the adjectives used to describe the music I’ll be playing, and by the end of the show hopefully you’ll be ready to start your own punk band too!

An offshoot of Easy Listening, Exotica is defined as the non-native, pseudo experience of music from Oceania, especially Hawaii. Lots of animal sounds and unusual instrumentation (including plenty of vibraphone) abound to give you the feeling that you really are in a native environment. But relax, it’s all controlled by safe studio environments right here in the U.S., and you will only be an accidental tourist for two hours…
